Happy Birthday! The Digital Pathology Wiki Celebrates It’s First Year

2010 was a great year for www.thedigitalpathologywiki.com with over 70,000 page views (aka hits) and almost 100,000 page views for the site in it’s first year; making the Digital Pathology Wiki the leading resource for information on digital pathology.  To celebrate a great year the Digital Pathology Wiki has been updated with a new look, support of different languages, and continues to grow with lots of new content.  New content includes:

  • Over 200 listed resources including publications, white papers, news articles, podcasts, and videos
  • Links to several valuable online journals and presentations
  • Calendar updated with 2011 digital pathology events
  • Career board with worldwide positions available in digital pathology
  • The most comprehensive list of digital pathology manufacturers, partners, and professional service providers available

Did you know there are 31 companies today who manufacturer a digital pathology hardware and/or software solution? If you frequently visit www.thedigitalpathologywiki.com then you probably do, otherwise bookmark this valuable site or sign up for an RSS feed.

Lastly, a special thanks to site sponsors Leica Microsystems, Bioimagene, and Visiopharm for a great year.  I will continue to work hard to build the site and grow content to increase exposure to your companies and products.  If others are interested in advertising in 2011, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you everyone for a great year and for the continued success of The Digital Pathology Wiki.  If you have any suggestions or ideas for the wiki please feel free to comment here or send me an email.

Resolution #1: A New Attitude

Is it really January 19th?  Many of you have probably already broken your new year resolutions, while I have yet to make one. For the past 19 days I have been behind and unable to catch up.  Is it because December was the busiest month for my business in 2010? Or because I have a 3 year old who kept me (and Santa) on our toes all month?  Who knows! All I know is I never had my usual end-of-year down time to get organized, clean out my email box, create a plan, and start out the new year fresh.  I love this time of year, but for some reason 2011 snuck up on me and has been riddled with stumbling blocks.  Including the flu (or some wicked virus since I did get my flu shot), the second cancellation of my coaching webinar (because of the flu), and the total crash of my wiki thanks to a routine (or so I thought…) software upgrade.

What’s a girl to do? Well, It’s time to declare a resolution!

Drum roll please……

With my rose colored glasses on and sipping a half full glass of lemonade (squeezed from life’s lemons, of course) I resolve to have a new attitude! 2011 will no longer control me, I now control 2011.

Sometimes all I need is a little perspective, and a tiny bit of patience to face my day-to-day challenges.  But obtaining the proper perspective isn’t possible unless you have the right attitude.  Armed with my positive attitude I am ready for January 20th- my proverbial new year.  Maybe I’ll take my own advice from my 2010 new year blog post and not stress over setbacks, but work hard to create realistic expectations so that setbacks do not occur often.

PS.  Don’t worry, the digital pathology wiki is up, has a new look, and is better than ever! I guess everything happens for a reason.

Need A Job? The Digital Pathology Market Is Hiring!

You spend so much of your life working- find a job you love and can be passionate about!  Just over a year ago I started my consulting business; a risky change from the comforts of my successful sales career.  My passion for digital pathology energizes the work I do every day, and my personal conviction for success is what has driven my company to grow and thrive in 2010.  The risky change was worth it, and the best decision I ever made.  How about you, are you ready for a change?   What career change will you take now or in 2011?

The unemployment rate is a hot topic on the news every day in our country and around the world.  But in digital pathology, the demand is greater than the number of applicants with experience in digital pathology.  I receive calls from recruiters all the time asking if I’m looking for a job, or know someone with digital pathology experience looking for a job.   There are all types of companies looking for great people including big corporations, small companies, pharmaceutical companies, and laboratories.   The type of positions vary greatly too and include software programmers, product developers, engineers, sales reps, marketing, project managers, administrative roles, technicians, etc.

Within the past few months, several companies have launched hiring efforts including Leica Microsystems, GE/Omnyx, and Philips to expand their teams. Other established companies like Aperio, Ventana, and Olympus have positions available too.  Some efforts are large, for example GE Healthcare currently lists 16 digital pathology positions for their collaboration with Omnyx.    This is optimistic for our economy but also exciting for the future of digital pathology.  Organizations are investing in people to build, refuel, and drive their business efforts forward.

Find a job you love and can be proud to do every day. Life is too short to work any other way!

If you are looking for a job, check out the Career Board at www.thedigitalpathologywiki.com.  I routinely update the companies who are hiring.  Also, the Digital Pathology group on LinkedIn is an excellent resource; I always encourage recruiters to post their positions there.  If you are hiring, please feel free to post a comment if you have a job available.
